Pati An

"Ahn" is my last name, it means Peace in Chinese.  My birth family name is Trolander & I go by Pati. 

In my youth, I was a dancer-choreographer. As a teenager, I went  to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry and centered my spiritual practices around dancing on the ocean every sunrise. After 6 months I went back to the US dance world, winding up in gloriously gritty NYC. I graduated from NYU School of the Arts & partook of the Jazz Loft & Reggae Scene. That's where I learned the power of live music. That it was big enough to feed my immense restlessness while quelling my endless social alienation.      

Soon after producing my first professional concert my life took a turn.  I fell hard for the martial arts; it was something I'd never seen before. Fairly quickly, this led me to China. Chasing the glimmer of "the arts" as a foreigner in a totalitarian state was an education in itself.   

After China, I became a physical therapist. This was in Boston-Cambridge where I was asked to revive a defunct women's martial arts school. That was another great adventure, for 10 years.  Post-grad I trained and worked directly in Kaltenborne-Evjenth orthopedic manual therapy at a clinic with such a  high level of integrity that the challenge of being a rookie there was a gift.

 

Via family, I got swept off to Seattle in a tsunami of the tech boom. I've been here ever since. 

  

 

  This is called Feng Shui in Chinese culture and described in socio-architectural terms in the "Pattern Language".  

So, in designing BodySongSpace, movement flow was a major factor -- from the main house to the pathways to the private places.   

These are the pursuits that led me here.

Now, I'm just the gardener.
